Acrylic CPR Sign Installation | Step-by-Step Guide for Secure Fixing

Installation Instructions for Acrylic CPR Signs

Proper installation of your Acrylic CPR Sign ensures maximum durability and compliance with Australian pool safety regulations. Follow these steps carefully to securely mount your sign while protecting its longevity.

Step 1: Consideration of Location

Before mounting the acrylic CPR sign, carefully assess the installation location:

Avoid Direct Sunlight Exposure – Prolonged exposure to intense sunlight and heat may cause warping or fading of the acrylic over time.
Choose a Visible Spot – Ensure the sign is positioned where it is easily noticeable and compliant with safety regulations.
Check the Mounting Surface – The surface should be flat, dry, and stable for the best adhesion and durability.

Step 2: Surface Preparation

Thoroughly Clean the Mounting Surface – Ensure it is free from dust, grease, or contaminants to promote strong adhesion.
Be Aware of Paint Types – Certain paints, including Teflon-based coatings, may affect adhesive bonding. If in doubt, lightly sand the surface before application.

Step 3: Ensuring Proper Alignment

Use a Spirit Level – Ensure precise horizontal alignment before securing the sign.
Mark Hole Locations in Advance – If using screws or standoffs, mark drilling points before installation.
Pre-Drill if Necessary – Pre-drilling helps prevent cracking or incorrect placement of the mounting holes.

Step 4: Mounting Your Sign

Your acrylic CPR sign can be installed using one of the following methods:

Option 1: Standoff or Screw Mounted Signs

Drill Carefully – Start with a smaller drill bit and gradually increase in size to avoid cracking the acrylic.
Support the Sign While Drilling – Place a piece of timber under the acrylic while drilling to prevent bowing or damage.
Use a Drill Press for Precision – If available, a drill press provides optimal control and reduces the risk of errors.
Choose the Right Fixings:

  • Plasterboard: Use plasterboard plugs with screws.
  • Concrete: Use masonry plugs with screws for secure fixing.

Option 2: Liquid Adhesive Mounting (For Reverse Printed Acrylic Signs Only)

Only Use Neutral Cure Silicone Polyurethane AdhesiveAvoid general construction adhesives, including solvent-based solutions like Liquid Nails, as they can damage the graphics.
Apply Evenly – Spread the adhesive evenly across the back of the sign, ensuring full coverage.
Hold in Place Until Secure – Press the sign firmly onto the surface and hold for at least 30 seconds before releasing.
Allow 24 Hours to Cure – Do not disturb the sign while the adhesive fully sets.

Option 3: Heavy-Duty Double-Sided Tape (For Smooth, Flat Surfaces)

Select the Right Tape – Use double-sided tape rated for outdoor use to ensure long-term adhesion.
Prepare the Surface – The mounting surface must be completely dry and free from dust or grease.
Apply Evenly Along the Back of the Sign – Cut the tape to the required size and press firmly onto the acrylic.
Firmly Press to Secure Adhesion – Once applied, press the sign onto the wall and hold for a few seconds.
Use Multiple Strips for Larger Signs – To reinforce stability, apply several strips along the edges and centre.
Wait Before Applying Additional Pressure – Allow the adhesive to set for the recommended time before removing the protective film or making adjustments.

Step 5: Removing the Protective Film

Acrylic signs are supplied with a clear protective film to safeguard against scratches and scuffs.
Once securely mounted, carefully peel off this protective layer to reveal a clean, polished finish.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Routine Cleaning – Use warm soapy water to remove dirt or debris.
Safe Cleaning Agents – If needed, use Isopropyl Alcohol for more stubborn marks.
Avoid Scratching the Acrylic – Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth when wiping down the surface.

Key Points for a Secure Installation:

Choose the right installation method based on your surface and sign type.
Always clean and dry surfaces before mounting.
Take your time with positioning to ensure a professional finish.
For adhesive mounting, allow full curing time before applying pressure.
